What Alie Actually Wears to Law School

An otherwise fashion-conscious girl in a semi-professional, semi-academic, semi-legal world

Black bag dress

by Alie

Hello ideal outfit.  This dress is everything I'm looking for: so baggy it doesn't touch my body below my shoulders, black, and work appropriate! I paired this holy grail of office wear with sandals that absolutely should not be worn anywhere but the beach or the Target from whence they came and a necklace I found at a shop that sold mostly hand-carved wooden animals.  If the necklace were a belt, it would make sense that it is the exact same color as my shoes, but it's not a belt, it's a necklace.

Dress - H&M

Coffee Mug - kitchen

Necklace - Ocean City, baby

Sandals - Target

Dizzy with color

by Alie

The thing is guys, if I had the choice, the brightest color I'd ever wear would be gray. Unfortunately, office wear does not give me that choice, so I bought this orange sweater.  Being that I've never done it before, matching different colors is not my strength.  Also, my mom thinks I'm color blind.  Today, I gave navy blue and orange a shot.

Dress - Julia gave it to me for free, it's a size too big.

Cardigan - (Adult) Gap

Necklace - Guatemala

Keans

by Alie

Today's outfit was all about navy (and gray and sandals)! I paired a navy peplum top with a slightly darker navy short-sleeved cardigan.  I felt like a pretty 1950's housewife but looked like a toddler who was allowed to dress herself and chose 2 things that she thought were the same color.  On the bottom, I wore a pair of gray keans (khaki jeans).  For accessories, I went with the same necklace I wear everyday and a black hair elastic.  Also, same sandals! The fun thing about this outfit is that the pockets of the pants jut out, pushing out the peplum, and creating the illusion that my thighs are even wider than they are! The other fun thing is I bought these pants at American Eagle 8 years ago!

Top - H&M

Sweater - Madewell

Pants - American Eagle

Necklace - Cute little crafts fair in D.C.

Hair elastic - CVS

Monday

by Alie

Happy Monday! Thanks so much for checking out my new blog!  If you are looking for work fashion ideas, this probably isn't the place for you.  This blog showcases the actual outfits I wear to my office job with a lax/nebulous dress code, shot in the harsh lighting of my actual office. Believe you me, I'm trying, but, also, I don't blow dry my hair, hate when clothes (such as pencil skirts) touch my stomach, and work in an environment where newer employees wear dress pants and higher ups wear sneakers.  Anyway, wish me luck and welcome to What Alie Actually Wears to Work!

I bought this dress in a preppy thrift shop thinking, "This dress is Theory, wearing it will make me work-fashionable". Not the case. You'll notice that in additional to some "flattering" ruching at the waist, there is also a large panel tacked on to the bottom.  I and others have wondered whether this was part of Tom Theory's original design or whether it was added later by someone looking to cover up those knees.  Either way, it could have done with some heels but I chose to wear the same flat sandals I've worn to work for the past 3 weeks.  Also, by adding the floral sweater, I made the dress look like dirt.
